Job description

The VP Group Safety & Occupational Health reports directly to the CEO, is part of and works in close cooperation with the Board of Directors. They will chair the Euro Safety Team and provide leadership to the company’s Safety Management System. They will further establish a strategy, vision, and culture of safety across our business and leadership to aspire to zero accidents and promote Just Culture across the business.

Key duties include (a.o.):

  • Prepare and advise senior management on safety matters, oversee hazard and risk assessment systems.

  • Train senior management in relation to safety matters and monitor risk assessment systems.

  • Provide Senior Management with guidance on short- and long-term safety strategy to reduce incident frequency and severity.

  • Partner with company leadership and Safety Managers across the business to drive safe behaviors, and strong safety culture with all employees and teams.

  • Coordinate the corporate safety program (5-Year Plan) and the wider Safety Management System implementation plan.

  • Drive the implementation of strategic safety initiatives to achieve safety objectives and Safety Performance Indicators (SPI’s)

  • Ensure full regulatory compliance and liaison with various enforcement agencies including incident and criminal investigation where required.

  • Continually look to improve the process of hazard identification and risk control.

Job requirements

Requirements are:

  • Excellent understanding of processes, procedures concerning Occupational Health & Safety in the airport ground handling industry.

  • Demonstrated success in improving safety performance and establishing best practices. Proven examples of engagement across all levels of an organisation.

  • Proven examples of effective and motivating team leadership with an emphasis on communication and listening skills.

  • Passion and drive for safety leadership and perseverant elimination of incidents and accidents.

  • Ability to push through policies and procedures.

  • Analytical, pro-active and decisive management approach.

  • Prepared to work outside of normal business hours and travel frequently, sometimes at short notice, including possible temporary secondment on a support / coaching basis at other locations.

  • Fluent command of English, both verbally and in writing.
